Harriet Higgins, nee Goodwin, who came originally from Halifax. She married Alfred Higgins who had an Irish mother, a bad temper and was given to drink. He was born in Newton. Harriet and Alfred had 8 children: Edna, Hannah, Albert, Joseph, Ethel, Martha Ellen (the donor's grandmother), and twins who died. The family lived in Hyde. Hannah went into service in Wimbourne in Dorset and remained a servant for 20 years. Harriet was accidentally burned to death. See Hyde Reporter 29 Oct 1927 and 19 Nov. 1927.
