The Band of Kindness was formed in 1882 by Frank Fearneley and Gilbert Kirlew as a children's vangelical and animal welfare society in Manchester. By 1886 it worked as a children's branch to raise money for the Refuge although it remained a separate body. By 1897 however it was reorganised, following Kirlew's scandel and subsequent resignation from the Refuge, into a Children's Help Society to help home-bound crippled children. File contains a letter to the Committee from the Council of the Band of Kindness and Children's Help Society informing them of its reorganisation, a leaflet about the Society and a pledge form for new members.
