(26) Very early, undated, section plans of the Mersey and Irwell Navigation, scale about 20' to 1 mile
Section 1 Irwell Upper Reach, Water Street, Manchester
Section 2 Throstle Nest Lock/Weir, Trafford
Section 3 Mode Wheel Lock/Weir, Eccles
Section 4 Barton Lock/Weir (missing)
Section 5 Stickings Cut and Lock below Barton
Section 6 Holme Bridge and Lock/Weir and Calamanco Lock/Weir, near Flixton
Section 7 Sandywarps Lock, Irlam (removed in the early 1880s)
These are probably the only plans to this scale of the cuts, locks and weirs of the Mersey and Irwell Navigation which remain. The whole of these sections of navigation virtually disappeared into the line of the Ship Canal to below Irlam

(36) Enlarged copy of the cheque for £1,710,000 by Manchester Ship Canal Company to Bridgewater Canal Company Ltd, 3 Aug 1887, for the purchase of the Bridgewater Canal and Mersey and Irwell Navigation. It was the largest cheque drawn up at that time. The original is with the National Archives.
