Volume of application forms for girls for election to the Schools. Also bound in in some instances are certifications of baptism, birth, or general health, letters of reference, and forms of engagement by those helping to fund the child's education, setting out how much they will pay and how often.
Application form gives name of subscriber by whom the child is recommended; the name and age of the child; with whom and where the child lives; to which parish it belongs; whether the child was born deaf or whether it lost its hearing through disease and at what age; whether it is totally deaf and dumb or can respond to noises or tries to speak; whether it shows signs of intelligence or memory, the current residence and occupation of its parents, and how much they have earned per week in the past 6 months; the number of children in the family, and whether any of the others, or any other relatives, are also deaf and dumb; whether the mother and father are related; how much the parents can pay towards supporting the child while it is in the Schools, or, if they are unable to pay anything, how the parish or Union will pay towards the child's support.
