Isaac Phiri, born in Broken Hill, Northern
Rhodesia (now Kabwe, Zambia), 1954.
An aircraft mechanic, Isaac trained in Dublin where
he met his wife Madeleine. Isaac found it hard
to find jobs in Dublin despite his qualifications,
and worked in many jobs in Manchester.
Madeleine Phiri, born in Dublin, 1959. Lived
in Dublin and Zambia before moving with her
family to Manchester in the 1980s. Isaac and
Madeleine describe what it was like to be part
of a mixed-race marriage in the 1980s and
why they feel at home in Old Trafford.
