The evolution and complete history of the Preston to Longridge branch line from its official opening on 1 May 1840 to the last remaining segment of the branch in 1994. The first railways were crucial in expanding and transforming the social and economic prosperity of the country's towns and villages. The combined mineral and passenger line was only the second in the order of railways to open around Preston and throughout its 154 year history the 7-mile branch unquestionably sustained a fascinating and complex history.
