Across generations immigrant families in America

Foner, Nancy2009
Book
Subject: 8 essays by different contributors, looking at one of the most hidden aspects of immigrant experience-the relationships between immigrant parents and the children they have raised in America. Immigrants and their American-born children represent about a quarter of the population of the United States. Using in-depth ethnographic research, the case studies tackle key issues, such as parental discipline, marriage choices, educational and occupational choices, legal status and transnational family ties. A broad range of immigrant groups are represented, from Latin America, Asia, the Caribbean and Africa; specifically Chinese, Filipino, West Indian, Bangladeshi, Sierra Leonean, Mexican as well as from the Dominican Republic, Guatemala and El Salvador.
