Slavery in america

Stuart, Marie1994
Book
Subject: The abolition of slavery was the result of a long and humiliating struggle in Black history. 'Slavery in America' describes the terrible experience of African slaves who were shipped to the American colonies and auctioned off like animals to work on the plantations. It was well over a hundred years before a later generation of slaves could call themselves free. It was only after a civil war between the North and the South that slavery in America was eventually abolished by law. Even then, black people were still treated as second-class citizens - unable to vote and segregated from the white community by the infamous Jim Crow 'laws'. This book is part of the series: Black Leaders in the Freedom Struggle. Book illustrated by Deborah Weymont.
