The photographs listed in this collection trace the history of the Manchester Ship Canal Company in pictures. They cover all periods of the Canal's history, from the passing of the Bill in 1886, to the construction period in the 1890's and the early days, right up to the Second World War period and through its heyday in the 1950's and 60's; and finally to the decline of the upper reaches in the late 1970's and the closure of the docks in Manchester and the development of the site as Salford Quays.
