This circuit originated as Manchester 8th Primitive Methodist Circuit, formed in 1891 out of Manchester 3rd PM (Salford) Circuit. After the Methodist Union of 1932 it was known as Salford (Swinton and Pendlebury) Methodist Circuit. In 1954 it joined with Salford (Pendleton) Circuit, a former Wesleyan Methodist circuit, to form Salford (Swinton, Pendlebury and Pendleton) Methodist Circuit.
