Opened in the 1870's as St Matthew's School with a boys, girls and junior boys departments. 29 September 1894 became Ardwick Higher Grade, and Organised Science School. The Junior departments became known as Ardwick Higher Grade School Junior Department, they went on to become Ardwick Municipal School, see M66/70. In 1902 it became Ardwick Higher Elementary School. In 1910 it became Ardwick Central School, Devenshire Street. In July 1952 the School was renamed, Ardwick Secondary Technical School. In Feb 1958 the name was again changed this time to Ardwick Technical High School. In 1967 it merged with two other local schools to form Nicholls Ardwick High School.
