The company was formed in 1921 to take over Brampton Brothers Ltd.'s interest in their works in Calais, established in 1898. There was also a French selling organisation, Societe Commerciale des Produits Brampton, S.A., based in Paris (later Brampton-Renold, S.A., of Neuilly-sur-Seine). The two companies merged in 1966 to form Brampton Renold. The Calais works produced munitions during the First World War. It was under German control during the Second World War.
