Custodial history:
The Congregational Church at Gatley began in 1777 in a cottage at Stonepale. Two years later, land was purchased and a church built in Old Hall Lane, which held its last service on 29 August 1937.
The new church built in Elm Road, held its first service on 4th Sept. 1937. The old buildings remained in use as a Sunday School until a new one was built in 1959. The old church site was sold to Cheshire County Council in 1967 for the building of a clinic. The graveyard was grassed over and converted into a garden of rest
In 1972, in common with most Congregational churches, Gatley joined in the union with Presbyternism and became Gatley United Reformed Church, in the South East Manchester District of the North West Province of the United Reformed Church
