The papers mainly concern the salt trade in Cheshire. After the formation of the Salt Union in 1888, the reports include Worcestershire, Durham, Ireland and foreign trade. There is also material relating to associated and subsidiary companies.

Custodial history:
Herman E Falk owned Meadow Bank Salt Works and Winsford Rock Salt Mine. He was a Liverpool salt broker, publisher of Falk's Salt Circular, vice-president, later President, of the Salt Chamber of Commerce and prime mover in the formation of the Salt Union.
