Up until 1974 the jurisdiction of the Bury County Coroner was for the following districts: Atherton, Blackrod, Bury, Farnworth, Horwich, Kearsley, Leigh, Radcliffe, Ramsbottom, Tottington, Turton, Tyldesley, Westhoughton, Whitefield. In 1974 the County of Greater Manchester was created and the Greater Manchester (Coroner's Districts) Order 1974 divided the county of Greater Manchester into 4 Coroner's Districts: West, North, South, and Manchester. The Rochdale Coroner has jurisdiction over the metropolitan boroughs of Rochdale, Bury, and Oldham which make up the North Division.
