Up until 1974 the jurisdiction of the Oldham Coroner was for the Borough only. In 1974 the County of Greater Manchester was created and the Greater Manchester (Coroner's Districts) Order 1974 divided the county of Greater Manchester into 4 Coroner's Districts: West, North, South, and Manchester. The Rochdale Coroner has jurisdiction over the metropolitan boroughs of Rochdale, Bury, and Oldham which make up the North Division.
