Customs and Excise used warehouses in Manchester to hold goods in bond. Records survive at the Greater Manchester Record Office from 1912 when warehouses were held at Store Street/ Boad Street, behind Piccadilly Station. Sometime prior to the 1950's all operations appear to have been transferred to a warehouse in Grape Street, opposite Granda Television Studios. Prior to nationalisation in 1948 the property belonged to the London Midland Scottish Railway Company.
