Some of these plans are in very large books or rolled plans. Many are in a fragile condition and as such may not be produced in the searchroom

Custodial history:
British Rail was formed in 1948 after nationalisation of the railway system. Previous to that year there were four independently owned private companies as constituted by the Railways Act 1921. Of these only the London Midland Scottish, London and North Eastern Railway are of interest to this archive.
