Horwich chapelry, within the parish of Deane, existed before the Reformation. During the Civil War Period it was used by Nonconformists and was not recovered for the Established church till 1716. The old chapel was rebuilt in 1779, but this was replaced in 1831 by the present Holy Trinity. It was not assigned a District till 1855, by Order in Council, 29 Dec. 1853 (London Gazette 10 Jan. 1854). Part of the parish was assigned to the new St. Catherine's, Horwich, by Order in Council, 22 April 1910, (London Gazette, 29 April).
The records were deposited in the Library as Diocesan Record Office in March and October 1982, by Rev. D.W. Gatenby
