Custodial history:
St Paul's was built on land given by John Horrocks Ainsworth of Moss Bank, and was endowed by him. Services were held in the school before the church was consecrated on 22 June 1848. The north east part of the District of St Peter's, Halliwell was assigned to St Paul's, by Bishop's Instrument 1849. Part of the District was assigned to St Thomas's by Order in Council 26 June 1879 (London Gazette, 8 July 1879).
