Custodial history:
St. Peter's was opened on 10 April 1791 and consecrated on 23 July 1791, as a chapel in the parish of Eccles. It was enlarged in 1828 and 1838, and rebuilt in 1868-1869, the new building being consecrated on 2 October 1869.
A district was assigned to St. Peter's from Eccles by Order in Council, 7 January 1865, (London Gazette, 10 January) and on 13 February 1865 it became a separate parish.
In 1987 the parishes of Christ Church, Pendlebury, St. Augustine's, Pendlebury and St. Peter's Swinton were united as the parish of Swinton and Pendlebury.
