St. Ambrose began as a Mission church in the parish of St. Thomas, Pendleton. A District was assigned to it by Order in Council, 20 October 1902 (London Gazette, 24 October 1902) from St. Thomas's, St. Luke's, Weaste and Christ Church, Salford. The church was consecrated on 20 September 1910. It was damaged by enemy action, 22 December 1940. It closed in 2006.
