Custodial history:
Nothing is known about the life of Henry Tootal beyond the fact that he was born about 1795, that he was a shareholder in several railway companies and he owned a property in Mayes Street, Manchester. This archive details the winding up of his estate after his death, registered in Steyning, Sussex, on 11th November 1868. At the time of his death Tootal lived at Upper Seymour Street, Portman Square, Middlesex but he died at 1 Brunswick Square, Brighton The sole executor (and trustee) was Alfred Wragge of Sealand View, Chester. In 1872 a second trustee, Mr James Wheeler, was appointed to administer the estate. The main beneficiaries were (possibly) three female relatives one of whom lived in Brighton, one on the Isle of Wight and one in Cheshire
