St. John's church was consecrated in 1826 and the townships of Farnworth and Kearsley assigned to it, from the parish of Deane, by Order in Council, 23 July 1828, (London Gazette, 13 January 1829).
In 1866 part of the parish was assigned to St. James, New Bury, by Order in Council, 9 May, (London Gazette, 11 May 1866).
In 1872 part was assigned to St. Stephen, Kearsley Moor, by Order in Council, 5 February, (London Gazette, 6 February 1872).
In 1880 part was assigned to St. Thomas, Dixon Green, by Order in Council, 6 September, (London Gazette, 14 September 1880).
In 1913 part was assigned to All Saints, Farnworth, by Order in Council, 13 June, (London Gazette, 13 June 1913).
In 1978 All Saints, Famworth, and Holy Trinity, Prestolee, joined East Farnworth and Kearsley as a team ministry, by Order in Council, 31 July, London Gazette 4 August 1978).
St. Peter's Farnworth, joined the team ministry in 1980, by Order in Council 28 July, (London Gazette, 14 August 1980).
By Order in Council, 2 August 1989, St. Thomas, Dixon Green, was added to East Farnworth and Kearsley. Holy Trinity, Prestolee was taken out of East Farnwroth and Kearsley and added to Ringley.
