Frank Wightman Drawings

In December 1976 Mr Frank Wightman, a retired master mill-wright living in Stretford was commissioned to produce drawings of mills, mill-engines, chimneys etc in the Greater Manchester area from the drawings he had made whilst working for George Saxon's and other engineering firms. Many of the mills and their engines had by then disappeared or been radically altered.

The grant was made on condition that the drawings became the property of Greater Manchester Council.

After Mr Wightman's death his estate was administered by the Midland Bank Trust Company Ltd and on 30 September 1998 the Executor transferred the records to the Greater Manchester County Record Office.
