This small township in the Parish of Manchester became part of the Borough of Manchester in 1838, being joined with Ardwick to form a municipal ward in the new borough. For Poor Law purposes the township of Beswick in 1858 was added to the Prestwich Poor Law Union, which had been constituted by order of the Poor Law Board in 1850. In 1896 Beswick was among the townships consolidated to form the Township of North Manchester for Poor Law purposes.

The records listed here were transferred from the Rates Department and the Committee Clerk's Department in the Manchester Town Hall in 1958.
