Moston in the Parish of Manchester was a separate township with its own parochial officials under the Manchester churchwardens. In 1841 it became a member of the Manchester Union of Poor Law Guardians, which was set up under the Poor Law Amendment Act of 1841. From 1850, until its incorporation into the Township of' North Manchester in 1896, for Poor Law purposes, Moston was a member of the Prestwich Union, constituted by order of the Poor Law Board in 1850. Moston was taken into the Borough of Manchester in 1890.
The records were transferred from the Rates Department in the Manchester Town Hall in 1958.
