Rusholme in the Parish of Manchester was a separate township with its own parochial officials under the Manchester Churchwardens until 1851 when the Rusholme Local Board of Health was set up under the Public Health Act of 1848. In 1885 Rusholme was incorporated in the City of Manchester. For Poor Law purposes it was in the Chorlton on Medlock Union of Poor Law Guardians from 1837, being merged with other townships into the Township of South Manchester in 1896.
