Shena D. Potter was born in 1883 and died in 1972. In 1912 she married Ernest Darwin Simon who was knighted in 1932 and created a baron in 1947, taking his title from the Hall and Park that they acquired in 1926 and gave to the City of Manchester thus providing the impetus to the development of the Tatton estates by the Corporation into the satellite town of Wythenshawe.
Shena Simon was Lady Mayoress 1921-1922, a City Councillor from 1924-1933, and thereafter a co-opted member of the Education Committee. She was awarded the Freedom of the City in 1964. She was awarded freedom of the City in 1964.
