Records Of The Manchester Amateur Photographic Society

1894-1960
Archives
These records were deposited in the Library in November 1966, by Charles Eshborn, a Trustee and former President and Editor of the Society.
The Society was formed in April 1885 'to associate its members for mutual assistance in the practice of the art and science of photography.' It had a popular subscription of five shillings as compared with the older and more exclusive Manchester Photographic Society's guinea per annum. In contrast to the latter, membership was at first restricted to amateurs, and ladies were eligible as members. By 1889, it was the largest photographic society of its kind in the United Kingdom.
