Founded 1894 in Manchester. Its first meeting was held at the Young Men's Christian Association Hall, Peter Street, Manchester, on 16 August 1894. It is the oldest surviving organisation concerned with walking and footpaths in Britain. It changed its name to Peak and Northern Footpaths Society in 1968. The group are now based at Taylor House in Offerton, Stockport.
