Plans and drawings of predecessor companies, showing new buildings, improvements, repairs etc. at a wide variety of sites, mainly in Lancashire and the Greater Manchester area, with some in Cheshire c1847-1924. The collection includes material relating to stations, bridges, road widening, subways, footbridges, warehouses, stables, viaducts, loading sheds, workshops, turntables, points and crossings, offices and weighbridges. The Manchester station plans include Manchester Victoria Station, Manchester Liverpool Road Station, Manchester Exchange Station and Manchester London Road (renamed Piccadilly Station in 1969). There are also plans of the widening of the incline at Hunt's Bank, Manchester, 1894-1895.
