The donor's mother owned a pie shop in Ancoats prior to World War 1. The donor was born Bessie Cookson and married Mr. Goodwin who was a driver in Russia in 1919. After Bessie's mother died when Bessie was about 13 she lived in Victoria Dwellings with relatives and worked in McConnels Mill. Later, after World War 1 she lived in Chorlton-cum-Hardy and took in boarders.
