George E T Hill, Dr Basil Hill's father, was master of the Prestwich Union Workhouse (Delaunays) from 1908 then from 1919 of both workhouses (Springfield and Delaunays) until 1934. The Prestwich and Manchester Unions were combined in April 1915, but it is not until July 1919 that the institutions come together under the name Crumpsall Institution and Infirmary.
