Mrs Porter was born in Hillgate - one of 10 children - Life was hard, father being a hatter, commanded a very small wage. Mother had to continue her work in the mill when her family came along, taking the baby with her for feeding purposes. Sister of Mrs E Dilkes, Ethel and Tom (older brother and sister) are not on photograph.
