From 1885 the organisation was called the Manchester Liberal Association. In 1903 they changed their name to the Manchester Liberal Union they subsequently became known as the Manchester Liberal Federation and by 1969 were called the City of Manchester Liberal Party

The following records were deposited on permanent loan in the Library in January 1978, by Mr. E. Tomlinson, Joint Hon. Treasurer of the City of Manchester Liberal Party.
A subsequent deposit of M283/2/1/2 M283/2/4/3 M283/2/5/3 and M283/2/7/1-5 was made by Mr. G. Goodman, Secretary of the Manchester Liberal Party, on 2 May 1985.
