Born at Great Hucklow Derbyshire 1907. Lived in Whalley Range, moved to Chorlton 1918. Father was a school master, later headmaster of St. Georges School, Hulme. Mrs. Parkinson left school at 14, worked for three months in a soap factory, then left to assist her mother in looking after her seven brothers and sisters. This she did till her marriage in 1926. The marriage ended in divorce after producing one child. Her own childhood was very happy
