Miss Nellie Platt was born in 1892 - her uncle and sisters were all teachers. She went to St. Mary's R.C. School, Ashton at 5 years - stayed on as a pupil teacher - went to Training College and later returned to teach there with her sister Agnes - she retired from the school in 1958.
