Mr. and Mrs. Grant were both born in Salford in 1920, both attended John St. Council School, Pendleton until they were 14. Mr. Grant worked as a docker at Salford Docks from 1934 - 1971 (served in Merchant Navy during World War II). Mrs. Grant went from school to Frankinburg's Rubber Works (now `Greengate & Irwell') as a machinist. Mr. Grant's grandfather came to Salford with `Morris' weavers from Scotland. His grandmother, from Scotland, was six feet tall, illiterate, a licenced broker, owned lodging houses and a shop, and had the first radiogram in Salford.
