Custodial history:
The donor's uncle Hugh (see 489/2 & 489/5) was a keen soldier in the First World War. He also went to the Boer War, but did not see any action. He was seriously wounded in France but contrary to expectation, recovered in hospital at Cosham. The donor's uncle Willie, on the other hand, was most reluctant to go to war. The donor was born in 1902, and worked in Hardcastle's Bleaching and Dyeing Works, Bradshaw, as his father did before him.
