The donor's father Mr. Gray, was hallkeeper at the Town Hall in Bolton and her mother worked in a mill for a while after the war, when extra money was needed. They lived in Burnden on Manchester Road. Her husband's father, Robert Owen, was a carter, and after the war worked for the Corporation, like Mr. Owen's grandfather, in the streets department. Robert Owen joined the Royal Artillery and fought in Egypt. Mr Owen's grandfather helped to build the tower and wheel at Blackpool.
