Donor born 1904, her mother born 1876. Donor born in Tyldesley and lived in Daubhill, her father was killed in a pit blast in 1906, when he was allowed too near an area of the coal face which was being blasted. He died in Ancoats Hospital. His mother started work in a mill at 10 yrs. old and had to get up at 4 a.m. Her sister lost two fingers at the age of 7, when working in the mill, and later went into service. The donor's uncle Richard Hughes was manager of a pit in Stoke. The Hughes' family originated from Wales.
