Born in 1891, in Greengate, Mr. Costello became well-known in Salford as the manager for 14 years (1941-55) of Salford House, a hostel for men in Bloom Street which had room for 285 men, many of them old age pensioners, and mostly regulars with only a few casuals. See tape for further details.
