Custodial history:
The Amalgamated Society of Woodworkers was founded 1 January 1921, from a merger of the General Union of Carpenters and Joiners (established 1827), the Amalgamated Union of Cabinetmakers (established 1833), the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners (established 1860) and the Associated Carpenters and Joiners of Scotland (established 1861). In 1970 Amalgamated Society of Woodworkers incorporated the Amalgamated Society of Painters and Decorators (established 1886) and the Amalgamated Union of Building Trade Workers (established 1921) and so from 1 January 1972 its name was changed to the Union of Construction, Allied Trades and Technicians.
