The donor's mother, Eugenie Wood, was born in 1875. Her father, Herbert Denton, was a cotton mill manager, and the family lived in Irlam o' th' Height. The donor's parents were married c.1898. Eugenie's mother died in childbirth and she was brought up by an older sister. The donor, Marjorie Hampshire, was born in 1912. Donor's husband Len was born 1908. His mother, Margaret Wheatcroft was a nurse who went to Rio de Janeiro in 1905, where she met her husband who imported race horses. The family returned to England in 1908.
