The donor was born 1905. Her father was a carter for the Firwood, and later the Harwood Vale, bleachworks. The children only saw him at weekends as he left in the morning for work before they got up, and returned at night after they were in bed. He made breakfast for them on Sundays, and would bring home some eggs wrapped in a red handkerchief.
