The donor's father, Bob Wood, became a well-known figure in the horse-racing world after he introduced aluminium horse-shoes. He was born in 1870 and died in 1933 aged 63. In later life he travelled Europe in the course of his work, once going to Milan just to dress horses' hooves for a race.
