Mrs.Kelly (nee White) was born in Horwich. Her family lived in Short Street, Horwich. On leaving school she went into Victoria Mill at the age of 14, to work as a towel weaver. She went to the Beehive Mill in 1948 for more money but she didn't stay there long and returned to Victoria. She married in 1937 and went with her husband to live in the Isle of Man. Her husband came from the Isle of Man.
