Born 1910 in Yorkshire. Started work in mines 1924 as pony driver. Then when 16 worked in mines at Mosley common and Brackley. Married 1934. In 1939 when mines were changing from wooden props to steel joined marines and then after war went back into mining. Worked on canal from 1955 - 1972. Built to get coal from Worsley, Walkden and Farnworth to the Bridgewater canal for transportation to Manchester. Opened 1760 closed for transport of coal 1887. Mr.Harrison was the mine deputy and was responsible for the repair and maintenance of the canal and for showing people around it. The majority of photographs were from the National Coal Board archives.
