Miss. Griffiths, aged 71, lives with her younger sister. They lived many years in Clayton with their mother, their father having died in Australia after they emigrated there in 1910 (in fact the two girls and their mother had already returned to Manchester before his death.) Their mother took in washing and cleaned in a pub. She was very strict even until her death in 1978, aged 92.
